We started as a committee to help with the Centennial Reunion at Malvern in 2003. We researched Malvern’s history, collected memorabilia, made archival displays, helped with events, and put together the Malvern Centennial Book (still available).We found there was so much work to do that we just couldn’t stop, so we are still in action. We have secured a room on Malvern’s second floor next to the Staff Room as our permanent Archive Room. All of our archival collection is in there and the MRBS holds its Executive meetings there.
This is what we are doing now:
- a) Sorting out Malvern’s archival collections of photos and papers with the aim of storing them in acid-free files and containers and eventually scanning them and having a computer database of all of them;
- b) Creating links for the school website of the following: databases of all the Malvern Muses since 1924, list of school valedictorians, lists of all academic prize winners, lists of all athletic championship winners, a cumulative staff list, 512 historic photographs of the school’s first 100 years, and a cumulative list of Malvern graduates by year.
- c) Mounting current displays for school graduation or other events
- d) Receiving memorabilia from past graduates or their families
- e) Finding people with whom you have lost touch and letting them know that you want to hear from them.
- f) Serving as liaison on the committee to restore Malvern’s monument (see the September issue of Musings)
- g) Helping the team from the Toronto District School Board do an inventory of the school’s art collection
- h) Arranging events such as the one on Remembrance Day this year.
We welcome volunteer help. We are often at the school on Tuesdays. Please help with this very worthwhile task, even on an occasional basis. Leave a message on our Hotline (416-393-8683) and we will call you back.
